The history of our wine and the viticultural culture of Carmignano
has deep, very ancient roots.
In the state archive of Florence, an ancient parchment dating back to 804 AD reveals that even at that time, olives and vines were cultivated at Capezzana to produce fine oils and wines.
The estate had different owners, including the Cantucci, the Bourbon del Monte, and the Adimari Morelli, before being acquired by the Franchetti Rothschild and later by the Contini Bonacossi family, the current owners.
Count Alessandro Contini Bonacossi and his wife Vittoria purchased the property and later expanded it with three neighboring farms: Trefiano, Cerretino, and Poggetto. This is how Tenuta di Capezzana was born.
The son of Cesare Alessandro Contini Bonacossi, Augusto Alessandro, introduced modern management of the Estate, seeking the advice of the best agronomists and oenologists of his time. In 1938, he built a state-of-the-art wine cellar. In the late 1960s, his son Ugo took over the reins of the company.
Ugo involved his children in the family business: the first to join his father was Vittorio, followed by Beatrice, Filippo, and Benedetta. Remaining faithful to tradition, Vittorio introduced organic cultivation from the 2000s.
The management of Tenuta di Capezzana is now in the hands of the fourth and fifth generations of the Contini Bonacossi family: the tradition is carried forward with passion and daily commitment.
